Very well done animation and art style that not only pays tribute to the Hokuto No Ken OVA Movie, but lampoons it perfectly! For the most part, these key scenes that you have parodied are all you would need to see in order to 'understand' the OVA movie. Of course, the writers of the original OVA movie pretty much messed up the first story arc from the story trilogy by trying to mash up all of the 'dramatic' events to make a quick cash grab from fans of the series.

It's too bad you didn't include Rei or Boss Fang; I'm sure those guys would have been made fun of correctly in your hands.

Well done!

MangaFood responds:

If you liked this parody, you should check out the live action film of FOTNS. Knocks mine out of the water.

It's been a long time since I had a good laugh.

What a surprise. That's a pretty keen 'optical illusion' with a humorous twist. I got a good laugh from this. Anyway, I certainly hope this passes. I'm also looking forward to what else you can come up with. Good work.

Bill-Hundle responds:

I have more ideas already, I'm just waiting to see how this does first. Thanks for the review.

I'm surprised somebody even remembers this game!

I thought I was the only one in this world who probably played this game and enjoyed it back in 92'. Back then, this was one of those 'underground' SNES titles which was quite hard to find, but I was lucky enough to rent this great game and beat it within 2 days.

It's great to know that there's actually someone else out there that liked this game, especially enough to make a decent flash movie to spoof it.

Graphics: 6 - I'm not really too big of a fan of 'sprite' based flash films, but I was quite impressed by how you managed to capture and eventually animate the characters to move just like their video game counterparts.

Style 8 - Anyone that can make a decent flash film out of a subject that was underrated will get high points from me. (Even more if it brought back a bit of nostalgia in my eyes)

Sound 8 - KMFDM? GREAT CHOICE! What got me though, is that you ripped the actual music from the game. (Those were some catchy tunes, weren't they?)

Violence 2 - There was a cameo from a Metroid, as well as the subject of 'Kendo', which involves hitting an opponent with a shinai/bokken stick.

Interactivity 0 - All I did was press 'play', so this shouldn't really apply.

Humor 7 - I got a couple of laughs from each of the situations that our beloved heroine had encountered.

Overall 7 - Anyone that pays tribute to old, underrated video games in the form of a decent flash film will get high marks from me. Good work. Hopefully you'll be making more "Kendo Rage" flash films.

KarmaX responds:

Thank you very much. I appreciate getting responces that have thought put into them. Although the animation of Jo was kinda off, and missing a lot of frames. Something i wish, in retorospect, i had put more priority on making it look correct.

The music in that game is some of my favorites. I often found myself humming "Cliff Hanger" before. hehe. The intro was neat i thought. KMFDM is one of my favorite groups ever, so i couldn't resist putting them in my first movie.

As far as humor it seems that either people think that the humor in this move was funny (becuase of the unexpected nature of the cameos) or they thought it was lame... I actually think that the truth lies somewhere in the middle ^_^;; Somewhere between funny and kinda lame. I could have done more with it, i think.

Lastly, if I do make another Kendo Rage movie, it'll probably be better than this one is.

Whooptee doo.

This is just a movie file imported and converted into flash. No effort, no score (save for the time you actually took to convert the file and do the pre-loader).

Splint0r responds:

and make it

A definite improvement.

Especially over your lack of stick figures. However, the real purpose of this flash was to show off your new drawing skills as well as a light hearted look at what happens to aliens who try to invade earth. (lol) Not great, but not the worst I've seen on NG and quite an improvement from your past material. I'm sure your future submissions will be even better. Glad to see that you were inspired enough to improve your own work.

Simkiss responds:

Thank you for a positive review.

Very original Kung Fu/Spartan X tribute

Very much inspired (I'm guessing) by the other popular "Kung Fu" tribute/parody here on NG, this one definitely ranks up there in terms of quality animation and humor. Excellent usage of sound effects as well.

DarkDisguise responds:

Thanks duuuuude!!!!
Well yea i was really inspired by the other ones that made these sort of movies.
Thanks for all man!!!!!
Good day!!!!!

As an original MGS story, it's not bad....

But you're going to have to work on a few things. First off, try to refine more of the storyline for it. You've got quite an idea for making a story using existing MGS characters such as Solid Snake and Otacon, especially when you decided to come up with an original title for it "Tactical - Thought - Exercises: Metal Gear Solid". With a bit more work fleshing out the storyline, you just might have a great thing on your hands. The artwork wasn't that bad actually. I liked your idea on 'rendering' Solid Snake in the VR Mission computer. Pretty good imagination on that part. Now the pacing of the movie as well as the voice acting was where the majority of problems began. I know that it's very difficult to mimic David Hayter's voice performance as "Solid Snake" so perhaps in the future, you could possibly have someone else do the Solid Snake voice for you. Otacon's voice was alright but overall, the audio should be turned down a bit to keep the distortion level at a good rate instead of making the voices sound 'tunneled'. Also, Solid Snake really doesn't use swear that much, so you might also want to cut back on some of the unnecessary profanity because it kind of detracts the MGS Fans' 'vision' of how Solid Snake would really act. Work out those details, clear up and show the audience more of the storyline and I'm sure you'll end up getting a higher score than what it's currently at. I'm actually surprised that this got such a low score. Honestly, I wouldn't put this at any score below 2.30 because I can tell you put a lot of work into it and it certainly is a lot better than some of the other MGS related crap flash that's on NG.

timberwolftrid responds:

thanks!
oh and by the way
someone else is doing to voice of solid snake! check the credits hes the best solid snake voice i could find
also it isnt otacon snake didnt know him yet this takes place between the first two games
about what you said about the swearing: me and my freind figured that in reality snake probably would swear more than he does in the games but doesnt to keep the esrb rating down and the swearing we figure makes him seem more badass

right so thanks for the positive review!

Manowar: Kings Of Metal

"Brothers Of Metal" is a kickass song. As for the flash itself, not bad at all. I especially liked the part where Princess Peach did her guitar solo and how you made her change her finger positioning on the fretboard as well as her facial expression. Good stuff. All in all, not a pointless movie. I see it as a tribute to Nintendo and Manowar (albeit a.... different type of tribute). "Hail & Kill!!"

radioheadrule responds:

Did you hear that Manowar assumed responsibility for the US East Coast black out? Apparently over a decade of their power metal was behind the disturbance. The beautiful thing about this - is I'm not even making that up!

Yeah, I agree with ThridPage.....

From one Kittie Fan to another....

This is the first Flash that I have ever seen that was dedicated to Kittie. For that, you get props for even doing a Flash for "Brackish". The artwork was a bit on the dark side and the whole SD look (super deformed) would have fit better if I could have seen Morgan, Mercedes and Jennifer instead of their dark silhouettes. Now, for the actual song itself, "Brackish" was a good choice, but you should also consider that this particular song was off their major label debut album and not their follow up. In essence, for the era it was recorded for, either Fallon or Jeff should be included in the animation for accuracy's sake. (It's possible for Morgan to play guitar while singing Brackish, but it would be easier to have another guitarist do so. That's why you'd need to include either Jeff or Fallon) Overall, a decent flash. Needs to be a bit longer, especially since the song was so long. The quality of the song only matters if you want to vary the file size. Nice job.

PcGex responds:

now this is what i call some quality review. Thanks for the tips....

I'm not evil.... It's just that some of my actions would make me appear that way. You could say that I'm..... Neutral. Think of me as someone who has 'Dark' intentions that would ultimately benefit the greater good. "Vae Victus"
